The legal needs of hospitals are often complex, as administrators must simultaneously focus on patient care, regulatory compliance, employment, a wide-range of general corporate matters, and litigation. We represent hospitals and health systems in these and other matters.
Hospital Corporate and Board Matters
We serve as general outside counsel to hospital and health systems clients. In this capacity, in addition to providing counsel at board and shareholder meetings, we provide counsel and legal strategy for a number of significant matters that may arise, such as ensuring compliance with state and federal laws that impact hospital operations (such as anti-fraud regulations, HIPAA, and other matters) and other legal operational matters that may arise, such as real estate transactions.
We also assist in providing employment counsel on sensitive matters affecting hospital executives and staff, including matters concerning employment policy development and compliance with the same in connection with specific matters and threatened litigation.
Hospitals are frequently subjected to audits. When these occur, we can advise hospitals in connection with the audit as well as compliance issues. In some instances, an audit may lead to a more in-depth investigation, requiring more vigorous representation. We are available to represent clients in these matters, as well as any administrative hearing or other matters that may arise.
Hospitals are subject to a complex and ever-changing regulatory environment, consisting of both state and federal regulations. As hospital attorneys serving Bellevue, Seattle, and the surrounding communities, we advise hospital clients on compliance with existing laws, as well as offering proactive counsel concerning proposed and recently adopted regulations. We work closely with hospital compliance to advise on what types of changes and reporting may be required with respect to such regulations.
