About Kevin
Kevin A. Michael focuses his practice on commercial litigation, representing businesses and individuals in complex disputes involving contracts, business relationships, construction, insurance coverage, consumer protection, maritime law, and appeals. Admitted to practice in Washington, Oregon, and Alaska, he understands that litigation is rarely just about winning a case. It is about protecting a client’s business, reputation, financial future, and ability to move forward with confidence.
Kevin brings nearly two decades of litigation experience to PRK Livengood, along with a perspective few commercial litigators possess. Before joining the firm, he spent his career representing some of the world’s largest insurance companies and corporations in sophisticated litigation throughout the Pacific Northwest. That experience gave him an in-depth understanding of how complex claims are evaluated, defended, and resolved. Today, he applies that knowledge to advocate for businesses and individuals, helping clients anticipate challenges, make informed decisions, and develop litigation strategies that support both their legal and business objectives.
Commercial Litigation – Protecting Businesses When Disputes Arise
Commercial disputes can interrupt business operations, strain important relationships, and create uncertainty for owners and employees alike. Kevin represents clients in a broad range of business litigation matters, including contract disputes, partnership and shareholder conflicts, business torts, consumer protection claims, and other complex commercial controversies.
Kevin believes every case begins with understanding the client’s business, not simply the legal issues presented. By learning how a dispute affects the client’s operations, priorities, and long-term goals, he develops practical litigation strategies designed to achieve meaningful results while minimizing unnecessary disruption. Whether negotiating a resolution or preparing for trial, Kevin remains focused on protecting what his clients have worked hard to build.
Construction, Maritime & Complex Civil Litigation
In addition to commercial litigation, Kevin represents clients in construction disputes, admiralty and maritime matters, and other complex civil litigation. His broad litigation background allows him to quickly identify key legal and factual issues while developing strategies tailored to the unique circumstances of each case.
Having spent years evaluating litigation from the perspective of insurers, Kevin understands how opposing parties assess liability, analyze risk, and approach settlement negotiations. That experience provides valuable insight that benefits clients throughout every stage of litigation.
A Practical, Client-Focused Approach
Kevin’s decision to join PRK Livengood reflected more than a career move. It reflected a desire to practice law in a way that is more personal and collaborative. After years working within one of the nation’s largest law firms, he wanted the opportunity to build lasting relationships with clients and become part of a firm where every matter receives personal attention.
Clients appreciate Kevin’s straightforward communication, thoughtful advice, and practical approach to solving problems. He understands that litigation can be stressful and disruptive, and he believes clients deserve clear guidance that helps them understand both the legal risks they face and the options available to them. His goal is not simply to resolve disputes, but to help clients make confident decisions that support their long-term success.
Background & Experience
Before joining PRK Livengood, Kevin practiced at Cozen O’Connor, where he represented domestic and international insurance companies in complex litigation. His work exposed him to virtually every type of civil litigation, providing a comprehensive understanding of litigation strategy, risk assessment, and dispute resolution that now benefits the businesses and individuals he represents.
Kevin earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Washington School of Law, where he served as Managing Editor of the Shidler Journal of Law, Commerce and Technology and was a member of the Moot Court Honor Board. During law school, he completed a judicial externship with the Honorable Robert S. Lasnik of the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington. He also received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Speech Communication from the University of Washington.
Outside the Office
Away from the office, Kevin enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. Much of his free time is devoted to coaching youth basketball, traveling to support his children’s athletic competitions (track, cross country, and badminton), and attending their band and drama performances. He also enjoys golfing and perfecting his Texas Barbeque and Nashville Hot Chicken recipes.
Kevin has been fascinated by film since childhood and often says that if he had not become an attorney, he would have pursued filmmaking. His appreciation for classic directors like Alfred Hitchcock and more recent directors such as Wes Anderson and Paul Thomas Anderson, reflects his lifelong interest in compelling storytelling and the enduring impact of well-crafted narratives.
